I made it!

I didn't think I would get finished but I did. What do I think about it? There is too much stuff out there for me to sift through to get to what I want. I could use the RSS feeds, maybe. Podcasts, never. Bloggers, I actually might start taking a look at stuff out there. Especially with the upcoming elections, but I am leery of who these bloggers are. I understand that most folks are simply putting themselves out there, part of me thinks how arrogant is that. Who would want to read what I think? Maybe somebody would, who knows. The important thing is that I now know how to do it. You tube is okay, you hear about it all the time on the news. Now I know what they are talking about. I probably won't use it too often, but I know how to.

So, good job to all of you who worked so hard to get this going for us. The staff has had fun, most of the time. They have really worked together, new leaders have emerged thanks to this project. Along with learning new things I have seen staff gain self confidence about themselves and their jobs. You guys may have created a few techno-junkies by doing this also.

My favorite thing? Creating my avatar! I just love looking at her. Thanks.

Overdrive

I spent quite a bit of time last week looking over the selections in Overdrive. I purchase audios for our county and was curious to see what was being duplicated. Overdrive has alot of the "chick lit" stuff which our customers love. I am not a downloadable user, too impatient to sit and wait for the stuff to download.

Podcasts

Podcast.com seemed to have older stuff, at least the topics I was looking for. I then went to Yahoo podcasts and was able to find newer things. This is something that I probably would never use.

You tube

Our library drill team will performing for the first time on Sunday, Nov. 11 at the County Veterans day parade. I found several great videos of drill teams across the country. For any one interested just search under library carts. I wouldn't advise looking at these at the front desk because I promise you will be laughing out loud.

NASCAR and Wine?

Check out the link about Richard Childress Winery! Who says NASCAR fans are only beer drinkers? I always take my favorite bottle (or bottles) to the races. The Childress Winery is a fun place to visit and do a wine tasting. Their tasting glasses are very good too. Haven't broken mine yet.

Library 2.0

Sure seems like librarians have been really busy for the last few years! I say we have done a remarkable job keeping up with the technological changes we have faced. We have gone (in my library career anyway) from using a card catalog and microfiche lists of subject and author headings to where we are today. And we have done this with most of us having no formal training in computers. Some folks are relunclent to see us decrease those huge reference collections and have cows over us not having NADA on the reference shelves (retired librarians are the best examples) I happen to think it's been a wonderful thing for us all. The information is so much easier for librarians and patron. Library 2.0 is simply another example of how important we are to the world!!
